Prerequisites

We assume the following:

Note: Delete the folder Bios6623-<yourusername> that you created in a previous step. In the steps below, you will create this folder by cloning your personal class repository. GitKraken will not be able to clone your repository if a directory with the same name already exists.

Outline

You will receive an email from GitHub notifying you that you’ve been added to a repository named bios6623-<your-username>. This repository belongs only to you and the course instructors. Other students can see your work, but cannot edit it. Your repository is private and is visible only to the Bios6623 instructors and students.

Next you will clone your repository to your computer:

Pull from GitHub (I’m just trying to help you establish this habit – do this each time you sit down to work on your repository).

Now, make some local changes, e.g. edit or add files.

Commit these changes to your local repo.

Push to GitHub.

Repeat ad nauseum as you do your coursework. The more often you commit the better.

Go back to the index for the all the Git stuff.
