Get setup for version control

The goal of this homework is to reproduce the software set up we did in class and move one step further by connecting with the class organization. More instructions are provided below.

The product of this homework is a modified README.md file in your class repository.

  1. Set up Git and GitHub. See setting up Git and GitHub and GitKraken

  2. Modify your test repository’s README.md file. Then clean up the test repository. Instructions are part way through Setting up Git and GitHub and GitKraken

  3. E-mail CANVAS your GitHub username immediately! Do this by late afternoon Monday!

  4. Take possession of your BIOS 6623 repo. This will only work if (3) is executed and we have had a chance to add you to the class organization. That might take until Tue morning if things are going well. We will e-mail you back from CANVAS when things are set up.

  5. Modify your README in your class repository. We will check that it says something to show you were there. Bare minimum is “This is the repository of Nichole Carlson”. Consider writing more.

  6. Report your process (in your README.md file)

Include a description of how you got the changes into README.md on GitHub.

The grading of this homework

This hwk is 1/5th of the module total (1/5th of 15%)

(0 points) No credit: Didn’t do the assigment.

(1 points) README.md says equivalent of “This is the repository of Nichole”. All work done via browser at github.com … but I don’t really know that because no process was documented.

(2 points) README.md provides a proper introduction of student to the class. The student describes their process of making changes to their README.md and offers comments on their GitHub workflow and their experience with Markdown (the .md file format).

We understand that issues will arise. We will have multiple office hours on Monday-Thurs to troubleshoot. If there is evidence of a real effort to get things going…we may consider accepting this homework late. BUT, HWK 2 due date won’t be delayed in those cases.

Note, although this homework is not worth much of the overall course grade, you CANNOT complete anything else in the course if this homework is not executed.
